JUNIOR SIDES PROGRESS TO FINALS
Posted 18/08/2017
Brothers Under 15 and Under 16 sides have booked themselves into the Cairns District Junior Rugby League Grand Final with wins at the weekend.
Despite winning only 2 games in all of 2016, this season has been special for the Under 16 sides as they have deifedthe critics throughout the year by being the first team through to this year's Grand Final following a 28-10 demolition of Suburbs.
Trailing 10-0 at half time, coach Paul Stevens rallied the troops for a second half onslaught that was led by under 15 players Xavier Savage and Dantoray Lui. Savage was particularly effective, with his injection into the game sparking the brothers attack in the 5 tries to 2 win.
The team will now meet the winner of the Suburbs v Tully match, with most pundits expecting last years premier Tully to advance past Suburbs.
In the Under 15 match, Brothers pushed past last years Grand Final nemesis Edmonton Storm to advance to the big dance. Coming from behind, the two sides were extremely evenly matched, and it was a run away try against the play by Zeph Gebadi that set up the win. Losing only 1 regular round game in three seasons, the side will take the field for their 3rd Grand Final in 4 seasons.
The Grand Finals will be held at Jones Park on Saturday 26th August.
